Hi, I’m Yirmiyahu (Yirmi) Gilbert.
I’m an architectural designer, artist, and optimist—driven by a love of bold ideas, thoughtful design, and the power of space to shape how we live and connect.
With roots in fine arts, graphic design, and sustainability, I bring an interdisciplinary lens to everything I do. I believe architecture should be uplifting and imaginative—rooted in place, responsive to community, and unafraid to push boundaries.
Over the years, I’ve worked across a wide range of project types and scales—from housing and commercial developments to cultural institutions and adaptive reuse of historic sites. I'm especially drawn to work that blends vision and craft—where innovation, beauty, and purpose come together in meaningful ways.
I hold a Master of Architecture from Columbia University and a BA in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College. Currently, I live in New Haven, CT, and practice at Newman Architects.
I also write Not to Scale, a newsletter about architecture, creativity, and the future of design. It’s a space for exploring big questions, sharing ideas, and thinking out loud. You can subscribe here.
